DUPPY GUN (Ruellia Tuberosa) LOOSE LEAF TEA
Ruellia Tuberosa plant, native to the Caribbean and popularly known as ' Duppy Gun' in Jamaica, is a
flowering plant species that is a member of the Acantharean family. The plant is also known as
Minnie Root, Sheep Potato, Fever Root. Children often have fun with the plant which has pods with
seeds that pop loudly when doused with water, hence the name 'Duppy Gun'
The plant has been touted to cleanse the blood, treats kidney disease and whooping cough, high
cholesterol, urinary tract infection, stomach inflammations like gastritis, even cancerous tumors and
STIs. There is scientific research to substantiate some of these claims.

In Jamaica, the health benefits of Duppy Gun are derived from the plant’s root and or the leaves.
This herbal tea is made by stripping and properly cleaning a sufficient piece of the root or washing a
few of the leaves. The piece of root, or leaves, is then allowed to steep in hot water for a few
minutes before being sweetened with honey. The Duppy Gun may also be mixed with other herbs to
make an even more potent tea.
INSTRUCTIONS
1 tablespoon chopped product. 1 cup of water. Place in pot with water. Cover. Bring to a boil for 30
minutes. Turn of flame and allow it to steep for another 30 minutes. Strain and allow to cool. Add
honey if desired.
RECOMMENDED DOSAGE: 1 cup twice daily
